This past November, on a regular school day, Cole McLeod woke up to find he couldn’t move his legs. Paralysis is a devastating but common symptom of Transverse Myelitis, a neurological disorder caused by inflammation of the spinal cord - the diagnosis Cole received at age 14, out of nowhere.
After months in SickKids for assessment and treatment, and then in Holland Bloorview for rehabilitation, where he kept up with his grade 10 studies, Cole is adjusting to life in a wheelchair, with a positive attitude and a focused aim to reclaim a full, active life.
Cole is not facing this challenge alone. His parents, Clare Jones and Grant McLeod, younger brother Lucas and lots of family and friends are standing right behind him. It’s been an emotional journey, unlike any other, and this loving family is determined to do all they can to help Cole heal and thrive. With our help, they’ll reach Cole’s goals.
